Iconoclastic Ivan

I can’t even begin to
Comprehend the notions going
On within the brain of the
Nonconformist known
Only as Ivan the Iconoclastic…
Covering the walls of his
Laboratory with an
Array of abstract equations
Seeking solutions to the problems
That society chalks up to fate…
Isolated in his genius, he relies on
Creative thinking, to inspire and
Invigorate his train of thought
Venturing deeper into the intellectual unknown
Abandoning the status quo
Never to return to social norms…

*Poetry Form: Acrostic
*Word of the Day: Iconoclastic

From A to Zenith

Anytime I walk by a police station, I
Begin to feel a little bit contumacious
Creating new elaborate scenes of peril, and
Destruction that deliberately causes upheaval amongst the
Elegant elites, so content in their defeatist mentality
Force feeding their views and beliefs about happiness and
Grief down the throats of those more downtrodden or
Haphazard than they’ve ever been in their lives
Igniting the fires of distrust like a
Juvenile arsonist, intent on creating chaos just to
Keep us on our toes… I suppose, this
Longwinded metaphor provides
Me with a better understanding of how to
Navigate the nuances of my subconscious and
Offers insight on the underlying meanings that
Prefer to remain hidden; like a
Question from a buddhist monks lips, or a
Riddle told time and time again between
Siblings, students, strangers and friends…
The truth which lies within, awaiting to be
Unleashed, is distinct and unique; each
Viewpoint perceives its value
With appreciation like a
Tenacious child, simply
Yearning for a new experience… Our own personal
Zenith…

*Word of the Day: Contumacious

Innocuous Feet

Why do you continue to distract yourself, instead
of focusing on your goals? The full extent of
Your true potential awaits! Stop seeking
Approval from those on the outside
Looking in, and stay true to yourself…
There is nowhere that you can go
To escape the voice that beckons you to
Follow the path laid out before the
Innocuous feet which will always be your source
Of transportation, if you keep them active and
Striving for adventure! By the time you realize
That you are the only one who
Can decide what is best for you
Then you will be content wherever you are…

*Poetry Form: Golden Shovel
*Word of the Day: Innocuous

Ode To The Opsimaths

We all must survive in this rat race
Of life, and attempt to live with grace
And find a way to learn to embrace
Each moment we have in this great place
Full of opportunity and knowledge
For people like you and me to chase…

Eventually, we’ll learn to face
The fact that we’re all floating through space
Though we don’t all move at the same pace
Like droplets of water, running down a vase
Some of us will become opsimaths, and
The latter parts of life, we will ace!…

*Poetry Form: Hir a Thoddaid
*Word of the Day: Opsimath

The Nefarious Huckster

I don’t want what you’re trying to sell
And frankly, it serves me no purpose!
Plus, all of those whistles and bells
And additions have little to no function
Yet, you still try to get me under your spell
Your nefarious huckster, like a con man with balls and shells!
But your aggressive tactics only make me nervous
So I raise my voice one last time, screaming “Please go to Hell!”

*Poetry Form: Magic (Abracadabra!)
*Word of the Day: Huckster

Specious Ways

I want so bad to believe you’ll stay true
And not falter from the path
But you love to lean on your specious ways…

If only you could see from my point of view
As we embrace once more in this bath
I want so bad to believe you’ll stay true…

Stay true to yourself, and break free from the haze
that attempts to lead you astray
Do not falter from the path…

Maybe one day you’ll get it straight
And return to yourself once more
But you love to lean on your specious ways…

*Poetry Form: Cascade
*Word of the Day: Specious

Intense Intentions

Don’t forget to leave a review
If you feel you need to complain
There is no way that you can say
Enough words, they just can’t explain
How you truly feel unruly
Like a newly founded disdain
Complicating, Aggravating
And persuading you to contain
Your frustration, degradation
For relationships that ingrain
Such dependance on horrendous
Flawed intentions, just like cocaine
Dealers preying on the failing
Hearts still craving that can’t restrain
Themselves from becoming fully
Addicted; The scars still remain
On their dark hearts, never departs
Only imparts more and more pain…

So allow me, if I may please,
Lend a buoy to help maintain
All your sorrow and, tomorrow
You may follow a new campaign
Towards redemption or exemption
Good intentions help you retain
Passion and hope and love…

*Poetry Form: Rhupunt
*Word of the Day: Buoy

Pursuing An Elusive Enemy

Quietly
Follow me through shadows with
Cunning and alacrity…

Secretly
We will navigate the streets
Of Airdrie and Calgary…

Till we see
Evidence of evil in
An elusive enemy…

That deceives
Those who falter from their path
Preying on their fear and grief…

*Poetry Form: Treochair
*Word of the Day: Alacrity

I Must Admit, I Disagree

I must admit, I disagree
With the common point of view
Of how we’re meant to fall in place
And do what we must do…

To be a part of the greater good
I must admit, I disagree
Or at least feel contretemps
By the actions of society…

As we search for purpose
Or a way to find our place
I must admit, I disagree
with the efforts of this rat race…

After all is said and done
The greed, betrayal and bigotry
With the forming societal norms
I must admit, I disagree…

*Poetry Form: Viator
*Word of the Day: Contretemps

That Which Is Due

Witness the man with such bad intentions
Hoping to take advantage of those who
Have little faith in their own convictions
Or have trouble discerning lies from truth
He relies on their stress and the tension
Building within them to lead them askew
Then he preys on their insecurities
And browbeats them with his arrogant speech…

After years of continued deception
His resentment for life, it grew and grew
Relying to much on his exemption
But some day we all must pay what is due
If he could only find some redemption
Or a reason o live his life renewed
But all he has left is deaths sweet release
Maybe then he can finally be at peace…

*Poetry Form: Ottava Rima
*Word of the Day: Browbeat

To Break From The Status Quo

O! how I deeply desire
To break from these obligations
If only I could retire
From this job, for which I was hired
But if I neglect my duties
And knowledge that I have learned prior
To this, then I’ll surely be let go
From my position and times will grow dire…

As I slip on my formal attire
And begin my preparations
My friends, with less responsibilities
Offer little to no consideration
For maintaining the status quo
That has been set forth by this nation
Convincing society that we
Must adhere to their administration…

I’m so fed up with all of these liars
And the focus that they do require
From me, like they’ve no education
Or the basic knowledge to inspire
Themselves to go out and acquire
All they need, and be their own supplier
As for me, My mind is at ease
Ive become a malingerer, no longer a complier…

*Poetry Form: Chueh-Chu
*Word of the Day: Malingerer

Soliciting Meaning From Stars

Are you even listening
To the voice that lies within
Slowly, it’s conditioning
You, to learn how to transcend…

Constantly transitioning
Striving to grow and amend
That which keeps on sickening
Or leading us down dead ends…

Witness now, the quickening
Our vision, we must surcease
Of life, pure and glistening
And embrace deaths sweet release…

Now as we are finishing
Viewing our lives from afar
No longer soliciting
The meaning of life from stars…

We have stopped petitioning
God to relieve us from strife
Focused on envisioning
How to live a better life…

*Poetry Form: Ae Freislighe
*Word of the Day: Surcease

A Tragic Night Out On The Town

She was so looking forward to
A night out on the town
New adventures she could pursue
With a crew that’s so renowned
But as the car, it came around
She felt a solemn chill run through
Her spine, causing her face to frown
But she was so looking forward to
Making new friends who are bold and new
Unabashedly wearing their crowns
Never deterred by stodgy taboos
On their night out on the town…

Bars and taverns, they did astound
As they laughed and drank till half past two
Then made their way towards the Puget Sound
So, new adventures, they could pursue
She dove into the waves of blue
No second thought on if she may drown
For how could any force on earth screw
With a crew thats so renowned?…

Now she is stuck lying face down
Her face, slowly losing its hue
Praying one day her body is found
I supposed thats just what you
Get, for looking forwards too much…

*Poetry Form: Rondeau Redouble
*Word of the Day: Stodgy

Ailurophobia

The time has come for us to start
To trust our hearts
And all they say
To guide the way…

Subtle like pandiculations
Explanations
Try to warn us
And inform us…

That we all must learn to adapt
Lest we be trapped
Like frightened rats
In fear of cats…

*Poetry Form: Minute
*Word of the Day: Pandiculation

A Meddlesome Interlude

It

Seems

Fruitless

When you try

To involve yourself

In situations that do not

Have anything to do with you
Nor do they require

Your meddlesome opinion to diminish
Their overall value and sense of worth

So please, retract your statements
And be on your way to wherever you’re going
So we can get back to focusing on our daily work…

*Poetry Form: The Fib
*Word of the Day: Meddlesome

The Time For Change Has Begun

The time for change has begun
The forests are burning
The oceans are churning
Soon there will be nowhere to run
The time for change has begun…

Society’s falling apart
And it’s people are losing heart
Destroying ourselves with our words and actions
The time for change has begun…

If we do not alter our way of life
Mistreating our planet and causing strife
Within our community, we’ll soon come undone
The time for change has begun…

In truth, we are only causing our own downfall
For, the longer we dawdle and continue to stall
In our efforts to fix that which we can not outrun
The time for change has begun…

If we are so hell bent on our own demise
Then we should also come to realize
Without us, earth will still to orbit the sun
The time for change has begun…

*Poetry Form: Dansa
*Word of the Day: Dawdle

Discombobulated Dizain

As we patrol the dark and frigid cold
Becoming more discombobulated
Hoping that the stories we have been told
About these woods were exaggerated
By the minds of the uneducated…

Yet now, a scream, it rings out in the night
Causing a feeling of horrible fright
Sending a chill down the length of our spines
Beckoning our legs and feet to take flight
And escape from this nightmarish design…

*Poetry Form: Dizain
*Word of the Day: Discombobulated

Have They Been Diffused?

How can you expect me to
Listen to your lies
That you say, so confident
In your false disguise
Are you so amused
By your blatant frippery
Or simply confused?…

I don’t understand why you
Continue to try
To pretend you’re heaven sent
Not just the fall guy
But, you’ve been abused
By such awful trickery
That can’t be excused…

I can see now that its true
Looking in your eyes
As you decide to repent
And apologize
To those you refused
To help, due to chivalry
Have they been diffused?…

*Poetry Form: Seguidilla
*Word of the Day: Frippery

Exigency Was Necessary

Time; more needed
We realized later only
We fall down, our cause,
Would we know we could?
How necessary was exigency
And known was paradox?
The aging of process
This, with coping,
Begin; one does,
How admirable…

How does one begin
Coping with this process of aging?
The paradox was known, and
Exigency was necessary
How could we know
We would cause our own downfall?
We only later realized
We needed more time…

*Poetry Form: Palindrome
*Word of the Day: Exigency

Selfish Campaign

Now that we’ve foreseen
A glimpse of the profane
Corruption that awaits
Us, if we can’t abstain…

From our brash desire
Of striving to attain
More than what is needed
For us to just sustain…

Life modern pleasures
Be they bold or mundane
We’ve become too aloof
To bother to maintain…

The structure required
If we hope to regain
Eudaemonic feelings
Within our hearts again…

But, until that day,
We will harbor disdain
For the way we’re living
In this selfish campaign…

*Poetry Form: Breccbairdne
*Word of the Day: Eudaemonic

The Wilderness Of Concrete

Aimlessly wandering dead end streets
No need for a place to call home
Day after day, they continue to roam
This wilderness made of concrete…

With no need for a place to call home
One must learn to be self reliant
If they hope to remain defiant
In the face of societal syndrome…

One must learn to be self reliant
In order to survive
Or find a way to strive
Without becoming compliant…

In order to survive
Without responsibility
One must embrace tranquility
And not purport their desire to be revived…

Aimlessly wandering dead end streets
No need for a place to call home
Day after day they continue to roam
This wilderness made of concrete

*Word of the Day: Purport

Prodigal Casanova

It really has become quite despairing
To see you so worked up about your finances
The way that you’re always cheeseparing
With your daily expenses, yet splurge on romances…

If you truly wish to break free from this helplessness
And once more feel confident in your investments
You must learn to notice your own recklessness
And accurately make better assessments…

To determine the value of your full attention
And wether or not you may benefit
Form offering it, even with noble intentions
You must first determine if it’s definite…

For, if we can learn to hone our perspective
And trust in the knowledge and hints we’re receiving
In turn, we will also become more objective
Towards those who sole rely on deceiving…

*Poetry Form: Droigneach
*Word of the Day: Cheeseparing

One Heck Of An Executive

He’s always on top of his game
In control of the narrative
Dresses sharp in a suit and tie
One heck of an executive…

No employee is inconnu
To his enlightened perspective
Knows each serves a larger purpose, he’s
One heck of an executive…

Never cracking under pressure
Knows how best to be effective
Every company needs to have
One heck of an executive…

*Poetry Form: Kyrielle
*Word of The Day: Inconnu

Prolific Efficiency

She never really had any difficulty
Adapting to her many different classes
Each subject, she viewed, as a new way to
Invigorate her mental desire
For knowledge, and her drive to learn…

Always on the lookout for an opportunity
Never discouraged by impasses
Determination guiding her through
Beckoning her to aspire
For greatness, and to yearn…

For prolific efficiency
To help the desperate masses
Of people who never truly knew
Just how much skill is required
To grow from the knowledge we earn…

After years of schooling, from 6 to 2
Where a polymaths thirst for facts builds like a fire
That will carry them forwards, so long as it continues to burn…

*Poetry Form: Rimas Dissolutas
*Word of the Day: Polymath

Pristine Life

After years of adventure
Our travels together still give me thrills
Over hills, between firs
Anywhere that we may roam
We must cherish each new experience
That’s spent in the unknown…

No matter the condition
Of the weather, if we are together,
It’s better; our mission,
To embrace the wilderness!
It’s endless wonders, be them big or small,
All know their true purpose
Just like cogs in a machine
Working together, symbiotically
To live a life pristine…

Whether it is day or night
Or the moments of gloaming in between
Stay serene, not contrite…

*Poetry Form: Englyn Byr Cwca
*Word of the Day: Gloaming

Avoiding Drudgery

Keep on making progress
And always do your best to find
Solutions in your mind
Don’t let yourself be blinded by
Mundane forces that try
To leave you high and dry without
A hope or prayer to shout;
So don’t you ever doubt your drive
To do better and thrive…

Envision your survival like
A long rewarding hike
Or a mallet that strikes a drum;
Drudgery makes us numb
Inside, and keeps us under the
Assumption that we see
The true reality of life
Not just the joy and strife
That cuts us like a knife across
Our epidermis… Loss

Is like the vibrant moss that grows
Upon the trees and shows
Us all we need to know, to start
To listen to our hearts; and
The wisdom it imparts upon us…

*Poetry Form: Luc Bat
*Word of the Day: Drudgery

Perfervid Citizens

We are just inspiration for the
Record that is our lives, playing on loop
Somewhere in the background
Attempting swiftly to regroup
Amidst the chaos that’s surrounding us;
Perfervid citizens, causing a fuss
Like chickens in a coop
Waiting through the night & morning to be set free…

Some people love to have all eyes on them
Overly expressing the way they feel
Perfervid citizens
Why do they think that they should steal
The attention, that we should be placing
On the challenges that we’re all facing
Honestly, lets be real;
If you’re not the solution, you may be the problem…

*Poetry Form: Mistress Bradstreet
*Word of the Day: Perfervid

Adventure Never Subsides

As the sun, it finally begins to rise
Over the snow-capped mountains in the distance
The tears of joy begin to swell in our eyes
And we feel content with our brief existence.
The brumal activities winter supplies
Help invigorate our sense of persistence
As the snow flakes begin to fall from the skies
Each one harmonious in its consistence…

As we slowly begin embracing the cold
And the new opportunities it provides
We remember the stories we’ve been told
About the bold winter and all that it hides.
Like tales of big fish or searching for fools gold
The adventurous feelings that do deride
Inside us all, whether we are young or old,
That sense within us never fully subsides…

*Poetry Form: Strambotto
*Word of the Day: Brumal

Life, Intertwined

Please try to keep an open mind
As you are attempting to find
The truth that tries to hide behind
The lies that have been set in place
To keep us in this endless race
Just like a dog who strives to chase
That which is flummox, not refined
By the slowly fading light
Yet we still continue to fight
Against the coming of the night
Despite it’s eternal design…

Maybe we were not meant to know
All the mysteries life can show
In the present or long ago
All of life is intertwined…

*Poetry Form: Zejel
*Word of the Day: Flummox

Masculine Masquerade

Watch him as he hovers over
Others who are just trying to
Complete the job they came to do
Before the end of October
He relies on forced exposure
Subjects his peers to every word
He thinks, no matter how absurd
He sounds, He continues to speak
But his words of advice all reek
Like the week old corpse of a bird…

His opinion, infallible
How ultracrepidarian
So boastful and so arrogant
Yet absent of humility
So sure of his ability
Yet fails at every simple task
And never completes what is asked
Of him, he simply turns his back
Forcing others to pick up the slack
Hiding behind his masculine mask…

*Poetry Form: Decima
*Word of the Day: Ultracrepidarian

Diminishing Quandary

Allow me, if I may, to start
By offering you something tart
Before we view this beautiful art
That’s near to where we’re at…

I made for you, this bouquet of flowers
Picked fresh from the lower
Side of the mountain, to which I owe
Gratitude, for dispelling my woe…

If I could swoon you with my charms
I swear I’d keep you out of harms
Way, and always hold you in my arms
With everything that I am…

We need nothing more than our love and some goats
And a steady supply of barley and oats
To enjoy exactly where we’re at
And not feel the desire to go…

Sometimes I think I am quite clever
At least enough to manage a lever
Until we faced our biggest quandary ever
Lost in the city on New Years Eve…

Surrounded by drunkards and vents blowing steam
The crowd was beginning to burst at the seam
So we abandoned our plans, gathered our team
And headed out east,
Towards the sea…

*Poetry Form: Diminishing Verse
*Word of the Day: Quandary
