JUNE 2023 POETRY

Life Is Precious & Wild

As we approach the summer solstice,
And the impending end of spring;
It almost seems as if some of
The last vestiges of winter
Had been set ablaze in valedictory…

Amid the flux,
Everyone has their preoccupations;
Death, the only long term certainty for us all,
Permeates among graveyards and scattered ashes.
Death is, after all, just one more transition
For which most of us are woefully unprepared…

The wisdom of summer
Teaches us to be fully awake, engaged,
And open to everything around us;
It is the season which swells like a tomato
Until its round, red and ripe.
Summer is life, and
Life is precious and wild…

Staring Out At The Sea

Staring out over the ocean,
Off the coast of Italy,
I’m reminded of a painting
From the mind of Dali.
A single ship, with sails
Taken by the wind,
Fading into the distant
Illuminated horizon…

I attempt to fix my gaze
On the pages which lie before me,
But they flew away like birds
On the gentle summer’s breeze.
One by one, they lifted themselves
Up from it’s bounded spine,
And climbed into the sky
Until they disappeared
Within the sun’s radiating light…

Now only a single conch lies beside me,
So I bring it to my ear, like a naive tyro;
The soft sound of crashing waves within it
Diminishes my growing fears.
Now anytime I feel distraught
Or anxiety building up inside me,
I know that I can ease my mind
By simply staring out at the sea…

Pseudo Inspired Scenesters

Why do you try so hard to
Fit in with those people who
See the world through jaded eyes?
They’ll only drive you askew…

Their approval can’t be gained,
They’ll just constantly complain
About every little thing
That brings them fear or disdain…

They’re so “pseudo inspired”
By the clout they’ve acquired;
How they love to give critiques,
Yet seek to be admired…

Show a little self respect,
Your own worth, do not neglect;
Least of all for scenesters who
Just treat you like a reject…

The Movement of Bubbles and Foam

As a river flows past an obstruction,
Water back fills the negative space;
Forming an eddy, which is used
As a regrouping or resting place.
While systematically moving down rapids,
And learning to identify their flow,
It is helpful to observe
The movement of bubbles and foam…

Know to cross the eddy line
Where it is narrower and well defined;
Here the current differential is greatest
Which reduces your chances of
Drifting down river, and
Missing it all together…

If you spend enough time observing,
You will often notice paddlers
Hopping gracefully from
One eddy to another,
As a way to practice
And refine their skills.
Before exiting an eddy,
Always look upstream,
And remember that;
Downstream traffic
Always has the right of way.
Once you get the hang of it,
You’ll be eddy hopping
With confidence and grace…

Ambrosial Aromas

Walking through the market,
Early, Saturday morning;
So many ambrosial aromas
Overwhelm my senses,
Leaving me in a constant state of salivation…

Whether sweet or savory,
All appear delicious and nutritious;
I don’t know how I could choose just one?!
So I guess I’ll be returning, each following weekend,
Until I can say that “I’ve tried them all”…

3652 Days

3652 days we have spent together,
Striving to improve our lives
No matter the state of the weather;
You are my better half and I am yours,
And I can’t wait to see
What our future holds in store…

3652 days we have spent together,
Living our lives the way that we choose,
Never feeling tethered
To a certain location or preoccupation;
No, we choose to live free!
Free to explore the world that lies before us,
Despite what others may think.
We have all that we have ever hoped for and more;
And I can’t wait to experience
What our future holds in store…

3652 days we have spent together,
We’ve had some times that felt so divine,
And some that could have been better;
But you still love me, even when
I look frowzy or like a gentleman.
O! You are the one that
I will always love and adore
And I can’t wait to see
What our future holds in store…

3652 days we have spent together,
It still feels as though our love is new,
Yet we know it will last forever;
For I am your husband and you are my wife,
So I will cherish you
For the rest of my life…

True Love or Predilection

Could this be true love
Or simply predilection
That keeps our bond strong?…

Yes, I prefer you,
Our time together is bliss;
And has lasted long…

Will we always be
There to comfort each other,
In good times or bad?…

Even if we don’t,
I will forever cherish
The memories we’ve had…

As Dawn Goes To Day

Turquoise in the morning light,
The treetops are alive
With the myriad of birdsong,
As the velvet feel of morning
Thrills the mind to warmly hum
In the warmth of the autumn sun…

The grass, leaning in the southern wind,
Seeming as if emeralds;
Sent tendrils up
To suckle at it’s yellow breast.
Now high above, inflamed
Like strands of green gemstones,
As delicate as hummingbirds tongues;
Tasting nectar from a titan in the sky…

Natures first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold;
Her early leafs a flower,
But only for an hour.
So dawn goes to day,
Nothing gold can stay…

In me, you see
The twilight of such a day;
As, after the sunset fades in the west,
Which by and by
Black night does take away.
Death’s second self,
That seals up all in rest…

The Humongous Fungus

What is bigger than a whale,
Yet hides out of sight?
What could fill a fleet of semi trucks,
Yet spread itself thin?
What sucks the life out of
Anything that it touches,
And has the weight of more than
200 grey whales?
Only the humongous fungus…

When you realize it’s size,
More than 3 square miles,
You’ll be convinced that its
The largest single living organism;
And, it being thousands of years old,
Who knows when it will finally
Rot from the inside and die?…

Like the laces of our shoes,
It spreads through the forest,
Between interconnected roots;
An unwitting pathway for
This parasite on the prowl.
If we can not eliminate it,
We must learn to adapt;
Since our efforts don’t impact it,
Should we use it to our advantage?
Or, is it all simply
Nature helping nature?…

Wednesday Morning Inspiration

Waking Wednesday morning to golden rays,
Being softly diffused by diaphanous curtains;
A spark of creativity, overtakes my brain.
Can this masterpiece, that appears before me,
Be properly portrayed with pen and ink?
Reaching anxiously towards my bedside drawer,
The veins in my arm tensing up
Like busy highways
Across my nervous wrists;
Grasping at nothing but air,
Where my quill used to sit…

O! Where is my tool
Of poetic creation
When I need it most?…

Embrace Your Youth

All it takes is just a little extra focus
On your physical and mental well being,
To embrace old age with vigor and vitality,
And remain sprightly and active;
Even as the ravages of time
Seek to diminish your outlook on life,
And make you yearn once more for youth…

Embrace your youth, for a time,
With it’s active physical vitality and mental vigor!
Yearn to take on all the extra outlooks you seek
Even as old age ravages and diminishes your focus;
And, once just being well is too little,
Remain sprightly and make more of life!…

Numb Blue Light

Now that new information has come to light,
We must leave here at dawn, and run from new light…

Our best laid plans, they are soon to be thwarted;
The forces of darkness wish to subdue light…

Perfidy has gotten under our skin,
So now we view our captors in untrue light…

Blinded by our heightened emotions, like flies
Diving to their demise, within numb blue light…

Each night, when we go to sleep, we ask ourselves;
Will we see another mornings sun dew light?…

Must we suffer like dogs, underneath their thumbs,
Until that final day; when they undo light?…

To Live a Life of Lust

You live your life
On your own terms,
Focusing on
The wanderlust
That courses through
Your active veins,
And seeking new
Experience;
So I wonder,
Where are you now?…

On the other side of the globe,
Or sailing the endless oceans;
This world is truly your oyster,
And you’ve taken ahold of it’s pearl.
No distance is too far away,
And no lover is out of reach;
Your drive to follow desire
Extends beyond geography.
Exploring your anatomy,
Who lies beneath your spell tonight?…

Your sexual exploits
Have seen many conquests,
And you’ve rested your head
Against many a breast;
But none could ever claim
That truly special place
Within your heart of hearts,
So you push them away.
Who will be your next rush,
Whom else from raptures road?…

When others view your life
They grow vicarious,
You seem so wild and free
Yet, inside there’s a void;
And it can not be filled
By spontaneity,
Only stability
Will bring to you true joy.
Your lust for desire,
Will you expel tonight?…

The Choir of Spring

The choir of spring,
So vibrant in harmony,

Illuminate The Path

Take a pilgrimage,
Adventure to far off lands;
Lose yourself to faith…

Seek divinity,
In your mind and in your soul;
Become numinous…

Embrace your full potential,
And achieve your dreams…

If you can nourish
The light that shines within you,
It will grow vibrant…

Illuminating the path
Of spirituality…

36 Years

In my 36 years on this earth,
There are many things that I have learned;
Still I try to keep my mind open to
More knowledge and new experiences.
Youth was filled with fun and games,
But as i came of age, music made
It’s way to the forefront; and with it
Revealed my life’s purpose and passion.
To write songs which bring joy to my soul, and seek
Healing though the power of music; to
Dedicate myself wholeheartedly,
And fulfill that commitment every day;
Yearn for artistic inspiration to
Persuade this pencil to fill these pages. To be
Open and humble, not vain and hauteur, to
Express myself truthfully and embrace the creative flow; but
Most of all, learn to love and be loved in return…

Seaside Proposal

We have spent our day upon the sand,
Now darling, won’t you please take my hand;
Walk along this esplanade with me,
We’ll watch the sunset over the sea…

Your love is all that I truly need,
To you, my heart will always concede;
And so, I offer to you this ring,
With a proposal for our wedding…

I’d be the luckiest man alive,
With you forever there, by my side;
Sharing the moments, both big and small,
And loving each other through it all…

If you say yes to my proposal,
I’ll always be at your disposal;
To care for you the rest of our days,
Until we have become old and grey…

Even then, you’ll still be in my heart,
Nothing could ever tear us apart;
Whether we face happiness or strife,
I’ll love you for the rest of my life…

The Spanish Inquisition’s Cruel Expedition

The Spanish Inquisition
Has begun their expedition,
To bring those in opposition
To their cause, under submission…

This elitist congregation
Has made their preparations,
To purify all nations
Corrupted by temptation…

To alter the perspectives of
Those deemed ineffective
By the communal collective,
Is their main objective…

This land, it shall be purified
Of those they have identified
As being so undignified,
And worthy of their genocide…

They’re so inutile,
These poor imbeciles;
Acting brash and wild,
Like frightened juveniles…

Yet, its an act of futility,
Demanding civility from
Those who lack humility;
Favoring stupidity…

As their movement, so ill-fated,
It finally dissipated;
The surviving masses celebrated
Becoming emancipated…

The Scientist Slips Slowly Into Depression

See the scientist, so enthralled,
Lost in his latest experimentations.
Tools and papers, randomly sprawled
Across the floors of his laboratory;
Yet, can they still be recalled?…

His ideas, as of lately, they
Were all leaving him frustrated; so he stalled,
And feel deep into depression.
Then back to his bed, so defeated, he crawled;
To rest his fevered brain a while…

But creativity soon called
Him to rise up from that catatonic state!
To cerebrate, not stay appalled,
And reconsider how his latest projects
Should some day come to be installed…

Analyzing The Divine

When learning a new skill,
You must open your mind
To new points of view,
That can become guides;
Along your true path
For knowledge, divine…

Analyzing the divine
Requires patience and skill,
And embracing one’s true path
Takes a dedicated mind;
There is no need for a guide,
To calque for you a new point of view…

If, this world, you can view
As holy and divine;
Your spirit, it will guide
You towards new skills,
And provide to your mind
New creative paths…

As you wander new paths,
Admiring the view;
Stay true to you mind
And it’s goals, so divine.
Develop your new skills,
And you’ll need no guide…

With only your heart as your guide,
You will come to find just one path;
It does not require much skill,
Just a clear point of view.
For, love, is so divine;
It can conquer hearts and minds…

Attaining peace of mind
Makes you your own guide,
Helps you strive for the divine
And forge your own path;
Altering your view
And enhancing your skills…

Each new skill we commit to mind
Enhances our point of view, like a guide,
Taking us down the beaten path; towards the divine…

Strong With Hope

Make a plan
Make it true
True and strong
True to you
You wil strive
You will pursue
Pursue your goals
Pursue your truth
Truth is powerful
Truth is pure
Pure like nature
Pure like light
Light the fire
Light the paths
Paths that twist
Paths that turn
Turn yourself around
Turn into something new
New experience awaits you
New challenges to conquer
Conquer your doubt
Conquer your fear
Fear is the mind killer
Fear is death
Death is inevitable
Death comes for us all…

All of our lives
All of the time
Time we spend learning
Time we spend yearning
Yearning for benignancy
Yearning for freedom
Freedom to choose
Freedom to find
Find our own way
Find the divine
Divine in spirit
Divine and holy
Holy like a miracle
Holy and faithful
Faithful to yourself
Faithful to those you love
Love with your whole heart
Love like theres no tomorrow
Tomorrow is never guaranteed, yet
Tomorrow may bring new hope
Hope will make you strong
Hope will keep you going

Ode To The Idler

Laying in bed, avoiding the day,
Content with living his life this way;
The idler stays immobile,
Reveling in his exile…

His home, it is a pig sty,
With dirty dishes piled high;
They cover every inch of carpet,
And smell just like his unwashed armpits…

It’s almost impressive,
The way he tolerates such filth;
Used up silverware, and unpaid bills.
I suppose that he prefers it this way,
So forever, in the mess he’s made of his life;
He will stay…

The Quiet Twilight

As the day gave way to night,
And the last bastions of light
Dissipated so softly,
We prepared for our last fight;
Remembering past battles
With cavalries and armored knights,
And how we overcame them,
Pushing back with all our might…

Yet this new foe we invite
To slaughter, proves to be quite
Emboldened by their leaders,
And the speeches they recite;
With their provocative words,
Bouts of rage they do incite,
Filling their men with bloodlust
And diminishing their fright…

As the suns rays did ignite,
The battlefield, it shone bright;
Festooned with trees and flowers,
Awaiting the coming plight.
Both sides raged on for hours,
Neither army giving flight,
Until only corpses laid
Within the quiet twilight…

Summer Fun

As the seasons change
From frigid cold to joyous warmth,
A sense of adventure
Fills those who have been
Hibernating in their homes…

Children play together
In the summer sun;
See them there, trading candies,
Focused only on fun.
They skip and run so happily,
Engaged in friendly games,
And practice their persiflage
When victory they claim…

When the days are calm
And last longer than the night,
There is more time for
Merriment and joy!
As the seasons change
From frigid cold to joyous warmth,
Its brings new opportunity
For every active girl and boy…

Fashionably Late

We left in a rush,
Running late to the party,
Before we knew it
We were already en route;
Driving many miles
Out to our destination,
Far from the reaches of
Modern conveniences.
Our eyes, they shone bright,
As we made our way inside;
The walls were adorned
With wild flowers and candles.
A quartet of strings
They played Bach in the background,
While couples did waltz
And sway beneath chandeliers.
It is obvious
Our host has spared no expense,
This lavish display,
It contains no paucity;
We may not have been
The first couple to arrive,
But we will most surely be
The final couple to leave…

Lackadasically Cliche

A thought, it has arisen, in my mind;
To find a path which does lead
To some kind of moral creed…

To focus on my health and well being,
By seeing the benefits
And seeming to give a shit…

There is a rumpus roaring in my brain;
O, the strain that it has brought
To my once swift train of thought…

How it is slowly driving me crazy,
Lazily fading away;
Lackadasically cliche…

Why do I fight myself on this matter?
Shall I flatter my dark side,
Rather than swallow my pride?…

My heart and brain must get on the same page,
And engage in harmony;
So, someday, we may feel free…

Embrace The Afterglow

Why must our children be so finicky?
They need to just let go,
Forget what they think they know,
And embrace the afterglow…

Appreciate each new experience,
And not simply make do
With their standard point of view;
Or they will never break through…

Break through those preconceived notions they’ve formed,
That once warmed their egos;
Adhering to status quos,
And behaving apropos…

If they focused on what makes them unique,
Seek to learn from their mistakes,
And the effort that it takes
To continue through their aches…

Then maybe they can become their true selves,
And delve deeper; succumb
To their intentions, where from
They’ll gain strength to overcome…

Noisome Emissions

I’m sorry I can’t help you
With the chores you need to do;
But, your room, smells like a zoo…

Each time that I go in it,

Leave it to a musician,
To live in these conditions,
Wrought with noisome emissions…

Or, our home, it will digress

Misadventures In The Morass Maze

O! What a miserable landscape;
Mud drapes across everything,
No song birds sing in the hollows,
No springs which flow endlessly…

These swamps that we seek to traverse,
Get worse as we continue;
Like a bayou filled with creatures
That have features, misconstrued…

This morass is like a prison
Envisioned by Lucifer;

Under winters, nuclear?…

And settled for cessation;
Our formation became disgraced,
As we embraced damnation…
