Shifting Seasons

As the seasons begin to shift, once more,
Aberrant weather alters our routines;
We must adapt to the changes it brings,
No longer act like we did before…

Autumn is calling us now, to receive
It’s blessings of harvest and longer nights;
Permitting us the opportunity
To prepare for the winter that’s to come…

We must embrace these natural changes,
As they inspire productivity,
And make us appreciate the seasons;
Be it summer, autumn, winter or spring…

When The Fear Subsides

I must not fear,
Even in times of doubt,
Fear is the mind killer;
It paralyzes logical thought
And makes us feel small, or
Unworthy of all we’ve worked so hard on.
Fear is the little death
Which lingers in the back of our minds,
Begging us to forfeit
When life gets rough;
Bringing total obliteration…

I will face my fear,
Reify my abstract idea of heroic aptitude;
I will permit it to pass over and through me
Like the roaring gust of a rejuvenating gale.
And, once it has gone past,
I will turn my inner eye to see it’s path;
Stretching off into the unforeseeable future.
When the fear subsides
There will be nothing;
Only I will remain…

Tasting Creativity

Patrick was quite a strange man,
Due to his proclivity
For consuming foreign foods,
Whose names he could not pronounce…

He’d travel around the world,
Flying to far off cities;
To taste the wildest cuisines,
Be it a pound or an ounce…

No dish was too exotic,
He would gladly eat them all;
On a plate or from a can,
No dinner could he denounce…

Tasting creativity
Has become his life long plan…

The Queen’s Guard

In front of the Queen’s castle,
So stolid, he stood;
His position as sentry,
He fills, as he should.
Patiently waiting
For his two hours to end,
As time keeps fading…

While he stands at attention,
Some passing by try
To challenge his convictions;
An attempt to pry
Out some emotion,
But he’s far too committed
To his devotion…

To be part of the Queen’s Guard
Has been his life dream,
Since he had been a young lad
Of twelve or thirteen;
It is an honor
For him, to make sure that no
Harm comes upon her…

Paranormal Proposition

So diligently, she types away,
To complete her disquisition
About ancient apparitions;
That have haunted the UK.
So diligently, she types away…

She has made it her mission
To research old superstitions,
From way back in the day;
So diligently, she types away…

Her paranormal proposition
About the many ghosts of Britain,
It shall not be delayed;
So diligently, she types away…

Word of the Day: Disquisition

Summer’s Reprise

The cool breeze of autumn
Has returned to our shores,
Bringing us a respite
From the summer heat, once more…

We pulled out our jackets,
And put away our shorts;
As the tourists packed up,
And all left the resorts…

But, a few days later,
Without any warning;
The temperature rose,
And caused a great warming…

This swift recrudescence,
Took us all by surprise;
So now we are living
Within summer’s reprise…

Albert’s Pond

A gaggle of geese waited excitedly,
Agog and filled with eager expectation,
Anticipating the release of bread from
Awkward hands; made more reluctant and
Afraid by their intense gaze…

Anxious for a meal, they
Attack their poor providers,
Anger in their eyes
As the feeding frenzy begins!
Anchovies and sourdough
Are thrown in every direction
As the family runs away in fear,
Avoiding the irate birds
And leaving them to fight over the spoils;
Abandoned on the ground
And scattered all around
Albert’s Pond…

The 13th of May

We all witnessed the immanent demise
Of the man who always loved to tell lies,
Deceiving people just to get his way;
Constantly hiding under a disguise…

Until that fateful and unlucky day
He met his end, on the 13th of May;
Struck by a satellite that fell from space,
While walking on the beach in Monterey…

So many mysteries surround this case,
At the wrong time, he was in the wrong place;
What are the chances that, at that moment,
His existence was completely erased?…

Mordant Morty

Mordant Morty, he’s so
Over analytical and harshly critical; it
Rubs people the wrong way.
Don’t ask his opinion about
Anything you’ve done,
No praise will be given
To you, he’ll just poke fun.
Mordant Morty, he’s so
Overtly sarcastic, it’s
Really hard to know when he is
Telling the truth; or if
You’ve just become his latest gullible victim…

Word of the Day: Mordant

Polemicized

See the protesters, down there in the streets,
So enthralled within their heated debate
Of whether or not this country can thrive;
Amidst such chaos, hatred and defeat.
The past few years have caused such division
Between members of our society,
Now, it seems, that we’ve reached a breaking point;
And no one is sure if we will survive.
Could this be the end of humanity?
Are we doomed to remain polemicized?…

Tethered Together

They came up, from below our feet,
To cause great havoc in the streets;
Doppelgängers who
Look like me and you,
But pursue our defeat…

Now they call themselves “The Tethered”,
And they have gathered together
To take the place of their twins, just above;
With brown gloves
Of leather…

Their calamitous nature, thus,
It is stirring up quite a fuss;
In jumpsuits of red,
Across town they spread,
Causing dread
Within us…

Burning Cities & Dead Kings

They journeyed to see the Oracle of Delphi,
At the shrine where men’s fates are foreseen;
She told them a harrowing prophecy, of
Burning cities and dead kings…

At the shrine where men’s fates are foreseen,
The prescient Pythia squirmed and screamed,
As puffs of smoke and vapors swirled around her…

She told them a harrowing prophecy, of
Destruction, brought on by Persian armies;
Who could not be restrained…

Burning cities and dead kings
Are all that will remain;
And a tidal wave of heroes blood…

Ode To Lagniappe

Her love for them was
Unconditional,
Her curly locks, so
Non traditional…

Care and compassion,
She brought to their home;
On warm summer nights,
Through the streets, they’d roam…

And, though she struggled
With anxiety,
Around them, she showed
Such propriety…

O! Lagniappe, you were
Much more than a gift;
When you were around,
Their spirits would lift!…

You will always have
A place in their hearts;
Though, from their presence,
You had to depart…

It’s true what they say
About man’s best friend;
They remain with us,
Even after the end…

Honest Onus

One must remain
True to their word,
When it is heard
Around the world;
And show no strain
When some absurd
Language is slurred,
Or rumors hurled…

If one can speak
Truth, without lies,
There’s no surprise
In their onus;
With great technique
And honest eyes,
Hard word complies,
Like a bonus…

The Gentle Kiss of Morning

As the light
Came through the window,
To suffuse
My bedroom,
The gentle kiss of morning
Caused me to arise…

Awakened
From hibernation,
To bask in
Summer’s glow;
And feel rejuvenated
By nature, once more…

A Life Divine

Must I continue with this routine?
Wake up, go to work, then back to sleep.
If only some force would intervene;
A new lust for life, inside me, I’d keep.
Pull me from these humdrum waters, so deep,
Teach me to appreciate my time.
Show me such beauty, it makes me weep;
That I may embrace, a life, divine…

Woebegone Blues

Slumped over on the steps,
Feeling
Overwhelmed by the weight of the world;
Broken,
Like an overused toy.
Losing
Grip on reality,
All hope
Fades from my woebegone heart,
Once more…

In The Face Of Danger

In the face of danger
Valorous men do great things,
They step up to the challenge
No matter how perilous…

If they can muster their courage
In the face of danger,
And continue pressing forward,
They are sure to succeed…

It doesn’t take a super hero
To achieve victory
In the face of danger;
Just the strength to proceed…

Though some may see these actions
As trivial, at best;
We learn our true character
In the face of danger

Verklempt Executives

Heightened expectations
Lead to anxiety,
And may leave us affixed
On the coming apex…

We try not to jinx it,
And maximize pleasure;
But, there is no easy fix
For those who feel quite vexed…

With eyes on the exits,
Verklempt executives
Exert all their effort,
Attempting to climax…

Their cruel exploitations
Corrode like toxic waste,
Our peaceful coexistence,
And cause excessive pain…

Excuses won’t save them,
Once the truth is exposed
About their extortion,
And their tax dodging schemes…

The Art of Repose

I have not done much resting,
Up until now;
There is much more to it than
Doing nothing physically.
When we give ourselves space to rest,
That space opens up,
In ourselves and all around us;
Such is the art of repose.
We become more aware
Of our surroundings,
More sensitive to the energy
That is underlying everything…

In repose we deepen our appreciation
Of ourselves, of others, and of life.
This brings us simplicity,
Yet also, a grand responsibility;
To commit ourselves fully to every moment.
If we can live in a way
That appreciates the quality of
Our being, as well as our doing,
We shall come to the end of the day
Feeling full and complete…

Foraging For Gewgaws

Llewlyn spends his time
Foraging for gewgaws,
He’s always on the hunt;
It doesn’t cost a dime
And keeps him occupied,
Instead of complacent…

All around the city
He finds little trinkets
Others have discarded,
Things he thinks are pretty
Or catch his attention,
All will be regarded…

All through the summer days,
From April to July,
He loves to play this game;
It fights off the malaise
And keeps his mind active,
Like an eternal flame…

Nature’s Bounty

Just look at this bounty we’ve collected,
While searching the depths of the forest;
Chanterelles, oysters and boletes
Are just some of the goods we’ve detected.
Foraging among the trees,
We feel so free in this element;
Returning to our natural roots,
And embracing the call of the wild.
When our foraging is complete,
With nature, we feel more connected;
And, happiness, it comes with ease
When our baskets are chockablock with nature’s bounty…

For The Love of Futbol

Running to and fro, for hours on end,
Vying for possession of a round ball;
Driven by their love of country and sport,
The roar of the crowd, beckoning them on.
Whether the stadium is large or small,
If the field is just dirt or lush green grass,
As long as there’s a field to play upon;
They will be there to run, kick, slide and pass.
O! They love this game with all of their hearts,
Whether just for fun, or if they contend…

To play this game requires endurance,
Or else, it will leave you quite stertorous;
Gasping for breath in the first few minutes,
And wishing you’d done a bit more training.
But, once your body begins to adjust
To the rigorous workouts and routines,
You’ll find that you are no longer straining
And your muscles work like little machines;
Propelling you forward, despite the pain,
Ensuring that you can go the distance…

The game of Futbol enthralls the masses,
No matter if you’re a child or adult;
It might just be the best game in the world…

Careening Down The Interstate

Careening down the interstate
In his eighteen wheeler,
Carrying a ton of weight;
Searching for a dealer…

In his eighteen wheeler,
With the landscape flying by;
Searching for a dealer
That will help to get him high…

With the landscape flying by,
He downs a couple pills;
That will help to get him high,
As he speeds over endless hills…

He downs a couple pills
Whenever he gets tired;
But, as he speeds over endless hills,
More focus is required…

Whenever he gets tired,
The road begins to blur,
And more focus is required;
Or, an accident, may occur…

The road begins to blur,
After hours of constant driving;
An accident may occur
Before this ponderous load is arriving…

After hours of constant driving,
Carrying a ton of weight;
This ponderous load is arriving,
Careening down the interstate…

Peter’s Panoply

Peter’s record collection,
It truly blows my mind;
Within his panoply of music,
There are so many gems to find.
Whether classic rock or opera,
Country, hip hop or blues;
Whatever it is you’d like to hear,
From his panoply,
There is so much to choose!
And, within it, every genre
Is properly defined…

Inaugural Dreams

Upon the shoulders of his team,

For he had made the final score,
And achieved their inaugural dream…

Who were underdogs, so hungry;
In their matches, they gave their all
As they answered their nations call,
To develop their legacy…

Gustav Turns 10!

Since the day when you came into our lives
You have shown us a love beyond compare,
And taught us so much about affection,
We could swear you were thaumaturgical;
Don’t ever lose that magic in your heart,
It inspires us to grow in new ways!…

From all of the adventures we have shared,

Lady Liberty

She stands solemnly,
Lady Liberty,
Staring
Over our country;
The land of the free.
Wearing
A robe of green,
From verdigris,
Tearing…

With eyes glaring,
And nose flaring,
So wide;
Anthem blaring,
Hope we’re sharing
Inside.
Not despairing,
We’re declaring
Our pride…

To this green guide
We shall abide,
And be
Filled with such pride,
It will provide
Such glee;
Fear will subside,
When we’re allied
And free…

Ramshackle Renovations

This ramshackle abode in which we stay,
Falls apart more and more, each year.
It’s gotten so old, it’s starting to decay,
And the outbreak of mold is quite severe;
O! How will we ever find a way
To make all these problems disappear?…

It’s gotten so old, it’s starting to decay,
And the outbreak of mold is quite severe;
The exterior paint has faded to grey,
The interior wall paper is torn and smeared.
O! How will we ever find a way
To make all these problems disappear?…

The exterior paint has faded to grey,
The interior wall paper is torn and smeared,
The garden is in a state of dismay;
And the hedges, they desperately need to be sheared.
O! How will we ever find a way
To make all these problems disappear?…

The garden is in a state of dismay,
And the hedges, they desperately need to be sheared;
We must begin renovations, without delay,
If we hope to persevere.

To make all these problems disappear?…

Incorporeal Beings

Incorporeal beings exist all around us, though
None can be seen by the naked eye.
Creatures existing exclusively
Outside of our frame of vision,
Rendering them invisible to
People; our peripheral
Optics preventing us from properly
Registering their existence.
Eyes can be deceiving,
After all, they’re only organs and
Lenses; which attempt to process
Billions of different bits of information about
Everything within your frame of vision,
In the matter of a fraction of a second.
Never take the majesty of your eyes for granted, but
Give them the benefit of the doubt, when they think they see
Something that wishes not to be seen…
